INTERNATIONAL PROSECUTION SECTION 21 November 1946 MEMORANDUM TO: All Attorneys FROM: Eugene D. Williams (by direction of Chief of Counsel) RE: Preparation of cases against individual defendants. Your attention is directed to the memorandum of 28 August 1946 issued by direction of the Chief of Counsel in which certain assignments of counsel were made to investigate and prepare to handle cases against individual defendants, including the cross-examination of such defendants. Due to the fact that many attorneys who were at that time assigned to handle the cases against individual defendants have left and are no longer available for this work, it has been necessary to make a re-assignment of personnel to handle this important phase of the case. Attached hereto is a list of the re-assignments to which your particular attention is directed. In preparing briefs concerning the various defendants the following matters may be of some assistance: (1)There are in my office copies of briefs prepared by Judge Albert Williams covering defendants Dohihara and Hoshino, and a brief prepared by Mr. McKenzie covering defendant Itagaki. (2)Miss Culverwell, room 308, has prepared and is bringing up to date digests of all evidence now appearing in the record concerning each defendant. A copy of this digest will be available to each attorney in so far as it affects the defendant or defendants who have been assigned to him. Do not hesitate to consult with Mr. Keenan or with me in reference to any questions which may arise in connection with this matter, which now deserves your honest and immediate attention. By direction of Chief of Counsel [Signed Eugene D Williams] EUGENE D. WILLIAMS Special Assistant
