Document 17 contains combined fleet all-secret operational order No. 1 for operations of the combined fleet in case war with the United States, Great Britain and the Netherlands begins during the China operations, dated 5 November 1941. It also contains combined fleet secret order No. 2, dated 7 November 1941, which names 8 December 1941 as “Y-Day.” SHIMADA’s name is not mentioned in these orders, but he was Minister of the Navy at the time of their issuance.
Document No. 486 is the document of armistice between Japan and China of the first Shanghai Incident, dated 5 May 1932. SHIMADA was one of the signatories to this instrument.
