The accused admit that at the time of the conclusion of the anti-comintern pact Japan?ÇÖs attitude towards the U.S.S.R. was hostile (Record page 17083-84, 22404-08). The accused do not deny that at the time of the conclusion of the Anti-Comintern Pact Japan?ÇÖs attitude towards the U.S.S.R. was hostile and that this pact was directed against the U.S.S.R. We can see this from the following words said by defense counsel Kiyose on his opening statement: ?Ç£Communism was engulfing our neighbor state . . . Assistance was extended from the Soviet Union in the shape of Russia technique of revolution as well as personal emissaries. . . Thus followed the joint defense against communism by Japan. . .?Ç¥ (Record page 17083-84) The opening statement read by defense counsel Lazarus contains the following contention: ?Ç£Large military preparations by the U.S.S.R. were in progress with the five year plan behind the Comintern at th
