Report prepared for the Foreign Economic Administration by a member of the staff of the United States Tariff Commission. This study focuses on the role of Wheat and Wheat Flour in Japan's economy. Entered as Defense Document 500-A-19. Handwritten note states "Reproduce all. Smith." Finds that prior to 1932, Japan was a heavy net importer of wheat, but due to the increase in population, Japan quickly because a net exporter. Gives figures for how this change affected the development of the wheat trade. Discusses the reliance of Japan on Empire areas for wheat flour and possible outcomes of dismemberment of the Empire on trade. Goes on to describes the production of wheat and flour, as well as the types of imports and exports.
