Report prepared for the Foreign Economic Administration by a member of the staff of the United States Tariff Commission. This study focuses on the role of Salt in Japan's economy. Entered as Defense Document 500-A-20. Handwritten note states "Reproduce all. Smith." Historically, Japan was the largest salt importing country in the world prior to the war and the industry operated under the monopolistic control of the government. Gives estimates on the future value of imports given a number of scenarios, including Japan's policy toward chemical industries.
