War Crime Suspect Goes to Hospital After Suicide Try
Masazo Fujino a former Japanese lieutenant accused as a war criminal by SCAP’s Legal Section recently attempted suicide by poison when he was apprehended, the Section disclosed today.
Fujino was taken into custody by Japanese authorities at the direction of SCAP and during his initial detention by the Japanese, he swallowed a quantity of silver nitrate. Only quick medical attention by the Japanese saved his life, SCAP said.
He is now under guard in the International Hospital, Tokyo.
SCAP has directed the Japanese to take precautions to prevent future suicide attempts by Fujino and has ordered that he be removed to Sugamo Prison as soon as his condition permits.
