Prison Ordered for Jap General Who Led in China
Tokyo (INS) – Japanese Gen. Iwane Matsui, said to be responsible for the rape of Nanking in 1937, has been ordered to report to Sugamo prison by March 1.
The commander in chief of Japanese forces in China during the early phases of the Sino-Japanese war, he was reported suffering home hardened arteries when he was named as a war criminal last November.
He was evidently recovered enough for imprisonment after a three month convalescent period in Atami.
