20 Lawyers Fly to Aid War Crime Suspctes
San Francisco, May 15 (AP) – Twenty attorneys are en route to Tokyo after leaving Hamilton Field Monday night aboard an Army transport plane for Tokyo to defend prominent Japanese accused of war crimes.
Edward P. McDermott, who was special assistant to the United States Attorney-General before volunteering to defend the Nipponese, said the attorneys expected to reach Japan this week but felt there was too little time to prepare the defense for the June 3 trials.
McDermott said, “Our first job may be to get another continuance.”
