41 War Suspects Arrive at Sugamo
Charged with Starving American War Prisoners
Forty-one suspected war criminals, charged with crimes including the execution of downed American fliers and torturing, beating and starving American prisoners of war have been received at Sugamo Prison during the past two weeks, according to SCAP Legal Section.
Among those taken into custody was Lt. Col. Kikuji Ito, who is wanted by the commander of the Marianas Islands for “ordering and supervising the execution of two American fliers.”
Sgt. Maj. Hidekitsu Tanakadata, who is wanted by the Manila branch of the Legal Section for his part in the massacre of 100 civilians in a camp near Llang-Llang and Bunawan, Davao Province, Mindanao, during the June, 1945, also was received at the prison.
