Japs’ Premier to Resign ‘If 3 Parties Unite’
Tokyo, April 16 – Premier Shidehara announced today that his cabinet would remain in office in view of the present absence of any “stabilizing” political force.
He added that his government would gladly retire, however, if Japan’s three major political parties – Liberal, Social Democrat, and Progressive – should unite and thus establish such a stabilizing power.
Some political observers think the Shidehara cabinet will resign after the groundwork is completed for the formation of a new party under the premier’s leadership.
