Former Jap Victor in Philippines Dies
Singapore, June 13 (UP) – Field Marshal Count Juichi Terauchi, who won and then lost the Philippines as Japanese commander in the South-West Pacific, died today at Johore.
Terauchi won public praise from Emperor Hirohito for his role in driving the Americans from the Philippines in 1942. When Gen. Douglas MacArthur led the American army back to the Philippines in October, 1944, he identified Terauchi once again as his opponent.
