Ten Bodies of B-29 Crew Discovered
Remains Found in Kyushu Under Nine-Foot Cross
YOKOHAMA, July 26 – Ten bodies, the crew of a B-29 which crashed in a rice paddy August 7, 1945, after being hit by anti-aircraft fire, have been discovered in the Fajita Public Cemetery of Omuta, Kyushu by Detachment “D” of the 18th Quartermaster Graves Registration stationed at Fukuoka, Kyushu, 8th Army Quartermaster Graves Registration disclosed today.
Four of the bodies have been identified by dog tags, flying jackets and laundry marks. Efforts to identify the bodies of the six remaining flyers will continue.
The grave was marked by a nine feet cross. On the cross were the words “Grave of Unknown Warriors.”
