Kempei Ex-Member Gets Year Sentence
Ryochi Kondo, described by Japanese policeman as a former member of the Kempetai was sentenced to one year in prison yesterday by Lt. Col. Gerald L. Church at the Yokohama Provost Court Number One, on a charge of illegal possession of a pistol and eight bullets.
Kondo pleaded guilty to the charge and made no statement, but police sergeant Kagataro Niimura testified that the accused had received the pistol when he went on duty as a member of the dreaded “thought police” and that he had been allowed to bring it home when he left the organization. Kondo is a resident of Kanagawa-ku.
