Papers and Official Records from the IMTFE, Created and Collected by George Carrington Williams, 1945-1948
The George Carrington Williams Papers document his work on the International Defense Section (IDS) of the IMTFE from 1945 to 1948. A 1942 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Williams was assigned to the defense of Naoki Hoshino, who was the chief civilian official in the Japanese government for Manchuria. Hoshino also served as President of the Planning Board from 1940-1941 and Chief Cabinet Secretary from 1941-1944. This collection includes Williams' personal files regarding the IDS (MSS Boxes 1-5), as well as copies of documents, exhibits, court transcript, and other trial records (MSS Boxes 6-86).
