Born in 1925 in Tokyo, Japan (his parents worked for Standard Oil Co.); died in 2014. Member of the Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS). Graduate of Dartmouth College. Upon joining the Army in 1943, he studied at the Military Intelligence Service Language Schools at the University of Michigan and Fort Snelling, MN. After 1947, he joined the State Department and served in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and London. Earned his law degree at Hastings College of Law in San Francisco and later joined the San Diego City Attorney’s Office in 1958.
