Sutton SUBJECT: Directives ?Çô Naval General Staff I hand you herewith the Japanese Naval General Staff directives from 1941 and 1944, together with a receipt in Japanese which refers to the 1941 directives. I also attach hereto a copy of the letter from Mr. James G. Lambert to me dated 4 September 1947 concerning these. I am sending a copy of this memorandum to the Scanning Unit with the request that they scan these documents to ascertain whether or not ?Çô (1) Directive No. 61, issued 1 March 1942, has ever been revoked, and (2) Whether the provisions originally contained in Directive No. 60, issued 1 March 1942, (later revoked by Directive No. 107, issued 22 June 1942), relative to the treatment of survivors of ships sunk by the Japanese Navy were re-enacted in any subsequent directive.
